Personal narration and presentation were found to be the most effective ways in message delivery, whilst manpower is one of the most sacred resources for zoo education. Therefore, deploying educators to conduct narration at the appropriate location and time will surely maximize the education message coverage in any facility. Here in Ocean Park, we have used the concept of assessing the Active Message Unit (AMU) and deploy narrators at appropriate locations to match visitor flows. This AMU has helped us to quantify our narration efforts, review existing strategies and make plans for staff deployment, training and recruitment. Besides, we have also used various tactics in conservation message delivery to match specific settings in each animal exhibit. By increasing our narration offerings, we are able to reach a greater audience to advocate environmental friendly ways of life. This presentation is to share our experiences in using AMU to help us utilize our precious human resources effectively in zoo education.
