Ueno Zoological Gardens, the National Museum of Nature and Science, and the Tokyo National Museum sponsor a collaborative course called “Ueno-no-Yama-de-(    )-Meguri,” meaning “(    ) Tour in Ueno Park,” every year, setting one animal species (or a taxon) as a common theme. (A certain name of a species or a taxon is inserted in the blank.) The participant targets are 10 to 18 year old students. During this event, lecturers guide participants around the three facilities. This year, primates have been chosen as a common theme. First, participants observe several primate body structures and behaviors at the zoo, then receive a lecture on primates and observe craniums and whole skeletons at the National Museum of Nature and Science, and finally view cultural properties using primates as motifs at the Tokyo National Museum. For this presentation, the selection of the theme, specific collaborative processes, the participants’ reactions, and points at issue are introduced.
