1、Introduction to the educational activities of the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums

The Japanese Association of Z00s and Aquariums

 

In April 2012, the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA), the public welfare corporation, established three new sections in the Educational Popularization Committee; the Educational Promotion Section, the Scientific Research Section and the Educational Training Section. The following are the introduction of activities mainly performed by the Educational Promotion Section.
The purpose of the activities:
Activation and personnel training of educational promotion projects in each zoo and aquarium. Equally important, the promotion of JAZA activities throughout society.
The contents of the activities:

1. Holding workshops
Aiming at learning and improvement of practical skills in making educational programs based on themes. These workshops are held twice a year each in zoos and aquariums.

2. Establishment of portal sites about educational programs
Aiming at opening sites this year which will link JAZA HPs to the educational programs of each zoo and aquarium. These links will provide an opportunity to advertise each institution and share information with the public about educational promotion activities.

3. Supporting the “Living Museums” symposiums
Aiming to support Zoos and Aquariums which hold symposiums to consider the future concepts of a national image, functions and issues of “Living & Lives of Museums”.
