2、Using IT to Share Information Between Facilities and Beyond

NPO ZOO CAN DREAM PROJECT

Zoos, aquariums, museums, and habitat centers all hold information about living things. An important element to consider when thinking about linking museums is how to share this scattered information beyond the boundaries of the facilities. Our NPO operates a system that is free to use, where multiple facilities can share information using smartphones and computers connecting to the Internet. With this system, each facility can put their own content on our web platform, where they can share information about specimens and habitats of living animals. Currently, seven zoos and aquariums in Japan have begun using this system, and it is helping to connect facilities with schools and users, contributing to their learning. In these modern times when IT is helping connect people in many ways, how can zoos, aquariums and other similar facilities cooperate together to connect users? In this presentation, we share our results from operating this system and hold a discussion.
