Aquamarine Fukushima

Aquamarine Fukushima was established by Fukushima Prefecture and is managed by the Fukushima Marine Science Museum Public Interest Incorporated Foundation since its opening in 2000. Kids Fisheries Museum, “Aquamarine UONOZOKI”, was opened in the east market of Onahama Fish Port on April 1, 2010, as a self-operated project.
The main concepts of the Kids Fisheries Museum are inheritance of traditional culture, education in eating seafood, and the promotion of fisheries. We have provided various exhibits and activities with the purpose of teaching kids about traditional fishery techniques and culture, problems which present fishery faces, and the importance of sustainable use of fishery resources for the future. However, this was seriously damaged by the tsunami on March 11, 2011. On July 15 of the same year, it was re-opened and then moved to the Onahama BISHOKU Hotel 2nd building in between Pier One and Pier Two of Onahama Port on December 28 of last year due to the construction of a refrigerator and freezer unit to reorganize the fish port.
This presentation will introduce the facility and report on management strategies and their current status.
